Hugo Chávez The Musical!
…tells the story of a ruthless leader’s rise to power—
a novel filled with drama, satire, and song that fuses fiction with reality.
“Bolívar won’t stop me from reaching absolute power. I have to touch his bones to fulfill my destiny, and I will crush anyone or anything that dares oppose me. Even the Liberator.”
The rebellion of ambitious comandante Hugo Chávez fails. As his soldiers die fighting in the streets, he hides in the basement of a military museum. When detained, Chávez seizes the spotlight, declaring to an anxious nation that his bloody coup was only the beginning.
“Those with eyes shall see. Those with ears shall hear,” he tells her.

Carla meets Chávez in prison 1994.
Cuban tyrant Fidel Castro…
“Who knows? Given time—and a little meddling on our part— we might just get this fool elected president. And then, oh my … all that oil money will keep us afloat forever. But first … I have to seduce him. Ugh!”

An intimate tango in Castro’s den.
How and why I wrote this work
In his first presidential campaign in 1998, Chávez’s fiery attacks on corruption, squandered oil wealth, crime, and poverty resonated with most Venezuelans—including me. Was he worth supporting? To find out, I arranged a one-to-one meeting with the candidate through some contacts.
A Unique Format
This 80-page short novel unfolds on stage rather than in the real world. Blending elements of fiction, theater, and a musical show, it incorporates QR codes and hyperlinks to music and dance clips, accompanied by images that highlight key characters and events. While inspired by dramatic forms, it does not adhere to the format of a libretto or film script, nor is it a “performance-ready” version, as I wrote it for the general reading public.
THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION BASED ON BIOGRAPHICAL FACTS & EVENTS.
